Journal 110 Air Conditioning

Hello!

How was your week?

This week we had a crazy heat wave over most of Europe.

It was wild. It got hot and it stayed hot the whole week.

Thankfully our apartment has an air conditioner. Ours is a Daikin. But we were not expecting to use it so early in the year, so we hadn’t gotten it ready.

This was my first time playing with a split air conditioner. I much prefer this type over central air. Our unit was in amazingly clean shape, not even a single fin on the radiator was bent. The only thing that needed to be cleaned was the blower wheel.

It would have been nice to take out the blower wheel and wash it with soap and water. But in our model it doesn’t come out easily, so we took off the flaps that direct the air and cleaned the blower wheel with soapy water and long bristled brushes through the opening.

It took some time and patience, but it got almost perfectly clean!

I think this is how this model was intended to be cleaned, and I was very happy with our work. Some videos online show people cleaning these types of models by bending the radiator to take it out.

I am so glad we didn’t try to remove the blower wheel by bending the radiator, which risks a refrigerant leak!

The only thing left to clean might be the drain pan, but I think that is easily accessible if we take off the case. But we need a taller ladder to do that. Finally, I would also like to clean the drain pipe.

But on that hot night at one in the morning that was good enough to turn it on!!!

Thank you for reading! I hoped to share more fun apartment projects, but I think it is now bedtime.

Please stay cool!
