Journal 120 Feline Hydration

Hi girls.

How was your week?

This week was pretty much the same for me. I felt the heat a little more this week. I kept forgetting to drink extra water for the heat and forgetting that extra amount can really dehydrate you fast.

We have also been pumping water into our cat like crazy. Water is so important that we can’t miss a single opportunity to get it into her. For example, when she wakes up from a nap she goes straight for the food, so we always have her plate ready.

Normally she pees four times a day. This is how much she does best with. But since it is so hot, the best we can get is three pees. Some super hot days we have only gotten two pees, but that is bad, we try to always have three at minimum.

We have an exercise routine at night to get that last third pee out. This obviously helps her have a more comfortable sleep at night!

And then a better day the next day, and she makes a nice poop, and she has more energy, and she drinks more water, and she pees more, etc. It’s all related!

Hydration is very important.

My cat does not usually drink plain water. For a brief time, when we first got her to live with us, we served her dry food and water. She did drink water like that.

But when we started serving her wet food from a can, she stopped drinking the water. But the wet food by itself wasn’t enough, and she was getting dehydrated.

So we started adding water to the wet food.

Since then, she has been very well hydrated! She can get annoyed by it though! So to make it more fun, we have a routine that includes a “chunky” meal with little or no added water. We also use the dry kibble as treats throughout the day. During the cold months, we start the day off with a hot watery meal, which also helps to stimulate bowel movement.

Hopefully anything was interesting or helpful for you!

Thank you for reading and please have a super good week ahead!
