Art Post: What To Hang On Walls?

Hello there, how is your week going?

I have an interesting question: As an artist, what kind of art (if any) do you like to hang on your walls?

Recently, we took down two paintings that were in our bedroom. Neither my partner nor I originally picked them out. Through the years I have liked them, disliked them, or tried to ignore them.

I am enjoying the newly cleared wall, but I want to hang up some new things. I just don’t know what. The wall color is very beautiful and soothing, there is one lovely picture remaining, and the room is small, so it is pretty cozy. It just needs a little bit more to personalize and ground it.

Since the bedroom is like our sanctuary, I want something that lifts my spirits, soothes my soul, or transports me somewhere else as I drift to sleep.

I guess I am fond of artistic older posters for nice cultural events and exhibitions. Especially works with nature and fantasy themes.

This has been about the bedroom, but what about other rooms? How about a workspace?

Do you like the idea of other people’s art, or your own art, hung up in your workspace? Photographs? Decals? Posters? Signs? Three-dimensional art?

I think for a workspace I would need a really clean and relaxing space. Nice colors, comfy seating, plants, but no artwork! (Except for materials for an active project.)

Artwork around the rest of the house would also be tough. If an artwork makes me feel something, I might not want to feel that feeling every time I see it. Maybe I would need to find works that have a positive impact on the activities in that space?

As for my own art, I think I would hang it up temporarily, the way a kid puts their picture on the fridge (“Look! I did this!”) but I would take it down after a while.

It’s funny, I like drawing, but I don’t think I have ever created something I want to permanently put on my wall. Nor encountered too many of other people’s works to put up. With a strong exception for lighthearted seasonal artworks!

Maybe in time I will figure out more about how I could utilize art around the house. In general, my interior design intuition is not very strong, haha. My partner is way better at that!

Thanks for reading!

Have a good end to your week!
