Art Post: Chat on Progress with Colored Pencils

Hello everyone!

Today’s post is a chat about how it’s been going with colored pencils.

I have learned that for me they take a lot of time. I was looking for a way to apply color quickly but this might not be it. Nonetheless, they have been very enjoyable. They feel very pure and sweet. I like them!

Yesterday I sat outside and drew some flowers. It was very nice, not something I get to do too often. I’m not used to real life moving living subjects– it was so much fun! I drew lots of different flowers, including tiny clover flowers and some day lilies that were coming out outside of their usual time.

I haven’t been too worried about techniques or anything. But I did read a great book on portrait drawing with colored pencil: Colored Pencil Portraits Step by Step by Ann Kullberg. What a wonderful art book!

I am still just trying to get a feel for colored pencils. At the same time, I’ve been trying to get the hang of color. It’s great– With a set of colored pencils, I get a limited amount of colors, and they are all carefully selected, all beautiful, so I feel like I can’t fuck it up too much haha!

I have also been copying from photos, as you guys have seen from the elements series.

So overall colored pencils have been very nice! And they are a very clean medium: I don’t have to worry about using them around my cat. (If they have safety certification.)

Thank you for reading!

Please have a nice Friday and a nice weekend!
